Our first ever Mario Kart Time Trial has finally come to a close – 4 Weeks, 4 Tracks, but only 1 Winner!
Huge congratulations to @Blyzr who assertively takes the top spot with a total time of 07:21.488 and earning himself a £15 Nintendo eShop voucher!
Firm GG’s to everyone that took part – We hope you had fun whittling down your track times over the course of the last month. Hopefully, next time you’re round your pal’s for hangs, and they suggest playing Mario Kart, you’ll now be able to absolutely destroy them. But only if the track is Super Bell Subway/Animal Crossing/Grumble Volcano/Mario Kart Stadium!!!
Final standings are as follows:
We’ve really enjoyed hosting this form of time trial – Enormous thanks to Arty for suggesting the idea and format.
We’ll be taking a week off, but then hopefully come back with some more Mario Kart soon!
Long time no announcements! Excited to share that we’ve got a brand new Satisfactory community server up and running as of RIGHT NOW, which Calamity_Sam has kindly offered to admin for us! So jump in, swig some coffee, and build that space elevator!
Details on the server and joining instructions will be available in Discord.
This marks the first of a series of announcements coming soon, to reveal some exciting upcoming community events!
Today marks two whole years since we set up the GGHQ community, and in that time, we’ve seen countless online events, spent god-knows how many hours in voice chat, and even had the opportunity to share an actual LAN event with some of you, last year!
The support we’ve had from our little community for all the things we’ve cobbled together has been amazing, and I’m so grateful to everyone in GGHQ that has helped us sustain it for this long! We know that the last two years have been exceptionally tough for a lot of people, but it really does mean the world when we see, sometimes total strangers across the internet, going out of their way to support our clan.
And so, to everyone who joined in with our hosted events, or lurked and liked our social media posts, or even who have just made sharing their scores in our Wordle thread a part of their daily ritual: We owe all of you a great, big, huge, massive:
Obviously, 2022 so far has been quieter than usual for GGHQ in terms of community events, but we’re aiming to bring back regular online events just as soon as I’m able to get internet speeds that allow for streaming & casting some inter-community scrims! Additionally, we’ll be aiming to host another LAN later this year, and planning is already well underway for GGX22!
We’re excited to see what else lies ahead for GGHQ over the next 12 months, and as always, if you have any suggestions or ideas for what you’d like to see in GGHQ, please don’t hesitate to either DM one of the @administrators or tag us in #General on Discord!
Before the chaos of the next few days ensues and everyone re-emerges from a cheese-and-gravy coma in the New Year, I just wanted to wish each of you a Merry Christmas and amazing New Year, and of course, say a great big thank-you for supporting GGHQ in 2021!
I’m so happy we were able to catch up with some of you at LAN and others during online community events throughout the year.
Knowing that friends are just a couple of clicks away during the most isolating moments of the year has been an absolute life raft for me, and I hope it may have helped some of you too!
Here’s to all the clutches, stomps, smoothbrain plays, and one in a million shots that 2022 will bring us! Be safe and take care of your friends and family during the Christmas break!
GWG are a registered charity that take donated video games or consoles, and sends them to hospitals, hospices and other healthcare settings where young people can benefit from the positive distractions that video games provide.
We’re proposing a community creation in the form of a yearbook tea towel, made up of a compilation of your self portrait “artwork“, much in the vain of primary school tea towels you might have contributed to (or forced your parents to buy) as a child yourself.
We suggest using Paint for that added authentic primary school artwork feel
Once your individual pieces of “artwork” have been submitted, tea towels will be designed and later be made available for pre-order , and all profits from these sales will be donated directly to GWG.
Requirements for your self-portraits:
Please only draw in black, with a white background. 600px by 600px in size.
Don’t forget to scrawl your handle underneath your creation.
Post them into the tea-towel-art channel on Discord (only images can be posted in this channel to prevent spam).
Anything vulgar will not be accepted into the final design (this is for a children’s charity, you monster!)
Please don’t worry if you don’t think you’re artistic – The incentive is to raise money for a good cause via the collaboration in the final product!
Well, it finally happened! This last weekend, we held a LAN for the first time in over 3 years!
GGX21 was an amazing day to catch up with old faces after what feels like forever, and to see some new ones too!
We’ll fire out a survey to attendees while the event is still relatively fresh in your minds to get some ever-valuable feedback from you all.
For those that couldn’t make it – We tested a new schedule and new equipment at the event, and both tests went well. The main takeaway from these is that we should be able to comfortably expand available tickets (should there be demand) for similar events in future.
Huge thanks to @LBU and @RunawayRipple who helped enormously with the venue booking and setup, and without whom there would have been no LAN, and to @MateyBoi for his valuable advice and help in the run-up to the event.
And thanks as well of course to every person that bought a ticket – I know not all of you were able to make it on the day due to illness or other commitments, but your support for these events makes them feel worth all of the setup.
Congratulations to the winners of the LAN too:
@Sneater – GWYF @JayBear – Wreckfest @Darrigaz – PUBG @Granted – UT2K4 and @Darrigaz, @Sneater, @Glazbee and @Nugget2468 for their narrow L4D2 win 😛
Hopefully see you at GGX22, but for now, I’m gonna chill with some Dota 😀
Looks like there are enough people (and some extra 😲) for us to host the inhouse!
Date set as:
Thursday 17th June at 20:30
There will be two teams of 5 players
Each team will have a coach in either myself or Sam
We’ll aim to drop all players a message over the coming days with a couple of questions about playtime for Dota 2/MOBA experience etc. to help us balance the teams as best we can, and then post the drafts before the evening.
We’re aiming to have the evening’s matches casted, and published as a full video at a later time.
Can you believe we’re almost halfway through the year!
Revealing the next hosted events, we’ve got two very special community evenings to look forward to!
Fletch will be hosting a General Knowledge quiz this Sunday from 8pm (be sure to start swotting up ready for the clown round!)
Then, later in the month MateyHype will be hosting a MarioKart8 evening on Switch for all your Nintendo nerds on June 13th.
Don’t forget that Glazbee is also hosting an ongoing series of F1 2019 Time Trials over in #racing-chat – Last week’s lap times saw three people separated by just 0.200! Head over to https://gghq.io/f1 to see the leaderboards.
All of you are welcome to join community nights – As always, just hop into Discord before the events start in order to take part!
Quick update following last week’s poll – It seems that F1 2019, Wreckfest and the New Among Us map took your fancy, so I’m excited to post that our next community event will in F1 2019 this Sunday from a slightly later time of 20:30.
The event will follow a Practice > Flying Qualifying Lap > Race format, and all abilities are welcome! If there’s sustained interest we will consider a longer form championship series, though this race would not count towards it.
PLEASE NOTE, THIS WILL BE THE F1 2019 STEAM VERSION. I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE XBOX GAME PASS VERSION OF THE GAME.
Copies of the game are available from here, for £3.49
Holy smokes! I can’t quite believe it, it’s our first birthday!
GGHQ’s first year has been host to dozens of events and activities, including tournaments, in-houses, scrims and community-hosted quiz nights!
We’ve seen the content creators among you jointly create and share thousands of hours of video and music from your own Twitch, Soundcloud and YouTube channels.
Discord has been our most active platform, with over 71,491 messages posted on the General channel alone.
Thanks to every single one of you all who has in any way supported our platforms, or taken part in any of the hosted events. After an especially tricky year for all of us, you’ve mutually breathed life into a wonderful online community.
Prior to announcing GGHQ in 2020, we had set a number of targets for our first year, most of which we met; though there are some that we’d still like to accomplish over the next 12months, so here’s a glimpse at some things we’re aspiring for in 2021-2022:
Continuation of regular community game nights
Online GGHQ charity fundraiser event
Social meet ups (Dependant on Covid restrictions, obviously)
Time trial/Challenge events
PUBG Encore Event
CSGO Tiebreak In-house
Left4Dead2 Tiebreak Scrim
Exploring ways that we can better promote/spotlight community created content
And, though it’s impossible to know for certain when it can happen, we’ve started preparations for our first GGHQ LAN Event!
As always our ears are open to what you guys want to see from GGHQ, so drop us a DM if you have any ideas of events you’d like over the next year!
Fletch has kindly offered to host an evening in bomb disposal etiquette. Join him one Sunday to take part in his defusal trials.
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes can be played by anyone regardless of whether you own the game. Simply download the concise defusal instructions for free online, and help Fletch and potentially others defuse bombs against the clock!
If you’d like to take part, pop in your availability on the linked Doodle on Discord and Facebook.
Now is the perfect time to jump into the world of Rust if you’ve never played it before! The Softcore game mode is slightly more forgiving than the ‘vanilla’ game style, allowing for newer players an easier entry into the game!
Rust is all about persistent-world survival, and tactically attacking and defending bases for maximum loot yield. @everyone is welcome to join, and with our trial server reaching over 600 hours of total playtime in January, hopefully it’s a sign you guys will enjoy it!!
Details on how to join the server and more are available in #rust-chat, which you can get access to by selecting the :oil: reaction in #welcome-and-rules
Thanks once again to everyone that has helped on our trial server over the last month! ❤
With 2020 limping to a close, I just wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and at the same time say an enormous thank you to everyone who has supported GGHQ over the last 9 months or so!
Given how peculiar circumstances have been this year, it’s been so amazing to have stayed in close contact with such a fantastic group of friends during a time that, for many, could feel totally isolating.
Your involvement in the community events has been incredible, and knowing that conversation, or support, is only a few clicks away at any time has been comforting.
As always, please take care of yourselves, as well as your nearest and dearest over the next few days, and we can’t wait to catch up with you again soon in 2021.
As 2020 draws to a close, we continue the momentum of our hosted events in December. Check out our schedule for the rest of the month – kicking off with another community quiz night, kindly hosted by Turbo_Phil!
As England readies itself for a second lockdown, starting tomorrow, we firstly want to remind everyone that the #covid-support Discord channel is available for any issues/updates/support that you guys may wish to post over the next four weeks and beyond.
It’s an anxious time for many, especially for those struggling with mental health issues or loneliness, and we hope you feel that our platforms are a safe place to connect with others and escape from some of the pressures of the world right now.
With that in mind, we are hoping to maintain and expand our ongoing community activities throughout the lockdown period, the first of which CalamitySam has kindly offered to create and host.
Introducing: GGHQ Lockdown Quiz!
Sam’s given us some dates starting from Wednesday next week – Head over to Discord or Facebook to share your availability if you’d like to join.
Following on from our experience with the previous lockdown, we’ve also added a new #General Chat voice channel to Discord for users to jump into while they’re working to help give some feeling of familiarity during the working day.
If you have any suggestions of features you’d like to see, or ways that GGHQ can help you during the lockdown, feel free to post them on Discord or contact one of the admins directly.
As voted for at the start of the month, we’ll be hosting another Left 4 Dead 2 event this Sunday! Aiming to run through some more Versus and Campaign playthroughs – Let’s see what teams of four might be able to beat Futz, Arty_Ziff, Darrigaz and Kruthal for the title of Best Survivors!
Today also marks 2 years (!!!) since the last LAN event we held. While it was our original intention to organise and host another LAN event in the Autumn half term of this year, the global pandemic has obviously prevented us from going ahead with those plans. Many LAN organisers that I’ve spoken with are expecting their events to be on hiatus at least until the second half of 2021, though of course it’s anyone’s guess at this point. It’s still our intention to organise a LAN, but only once it’s absolutely safe to do so.
In the absence of any IRL event this year, hopefully the online community events have allowed you to continue to meet new ‘faces’, and keep in touch with people. Since March we’ve hosted 23 community events, and will be continuing them for the foreseeable future.
We’ve still got a list of things that we’d like to do outside of a LAN, but time and real-world commitments might impact whether those come to fruition this year, or if they’ll end up waiting until 2021.
As always, feel free to shout at us with any feedback or ideas! Last time we asked, we got some fantastic points raised which have all had a really positive impact!
This evening marks the release of the Last Stand community update for Left 4 Dead 2 (18:00 BST), the first major update for L4D2 in years! Versus mode has been confirmed (apparently with some ‘special features’) and we’ll be hosting some Versus lobbies this Sunday in case anyone wants to take a trip down nostalgia lane! Join us from 8pm, maximum zombie thrashing!
Well this is an exciting update, and about my favourite topic too:
MERCH! dont mention the mugs
Recently, GGHQ members voiced interest in some branded merch, and after some helpful discussion with mattstilbust we explored some options.
Now while we had originally hoped to explore the potential of having customised clothing to include your own individual gaming handles, after a little research it was deemed too impractical to pursue at this point.
BUT, I think we’ve got something even better!
Matt has mocked up a pair of branded GGHQ hoodies for us over on the Discord! Now in order for these to be made, we’d love to know if you have a preference for one of the designs, or if you like both!
So head over to our Discord channel, and check out the voting posts in #Announcements
Once we’ve figured out you’re preference, we’ll setup preorders!
We’ll be hosting a GGHQ Golf With Your Friends event this Sunday 26th July, from 8pm!
We’re excited to be trialling a points-based league system for certain GGHQ hosted events – This GWYF event will mark the first event in that league. Points will be awarded based on finishing position on a nominated round, and at the end of a season, we’ll tot up the points to mark our winner(s)!
We’re excited to announce June’s hosted events as in the graphic above! We can’t wait to see you there! As always, if you have any suggestions, please feel free to reach out to any of the admin team, and we’ll do our best to accomodate demand!
May 16th marks the official release of the FINAL ever Terraria update, the aptly named ‘Journey’s End’.
To celebrate the occasion, we’ll be firing up a GGHQ Terraria server for you guys to play on! This will be a server that we fire up on a consistent schedule to ensure that all players get a fair whack at seeing all of the new content Terraria has to offer – Details of that schedule will be arranged to reflect the availability of the Terraria players 🙂
The first window into 1.4 will be on launch day – This coming Saturday! We’ll have the server updated the moment the patch is available, which currently, is rumoured to be 18:00 BST, but may change closer to the time!
FULL DETAILS OF WORKSHOP COLLECTION WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON™
If your first thought is ‘what the hell is TTT’ well do we have some news for you!
Trouble in Terrorist town is a round based video game equivalent to some RP boardgames you might have played like ‘Werewolf’.At the start of a round, players are allocated a ‘role’. Dependant on your role, you have to carry out certain actions without letting on to the other players.
Traitors must kill all non traitors (except Jesters!) Innocents must find out who the traitors are and kill them! Detectives use their tools to help the innocents identify the traitors. Jesters try and dupe innocents into killing them for a round win. Phoenixes have the ability to resurrect themselves. Survivalists have a small pool of weapons that they can buy from.
Mix in a few hundred other weapons/skins/behavioural mods, and TTT makes for one of the most ridiculous and side splitting game modes you can play on PC!Given that gameplay is best enjoyed for smaller pools of players, we may have to rotate some people in/out of rounds, but will determine this based on interest.
Excited to announce our plans for a Nintendo Switch event this weekend! Head on over to our Discord to keep up to date with information relating to the event. It’ll be our first non-PC competition, and the first event of May. We hope you’ll join us for some blue-shell action!
The CS Scrim matches are complete, but the battle is FAR from over!
We finished our games in a perfect tie this evening, with game 1 lurching into overtime. Carole Baskin’s Tigers appropriately swiped the game in their favour after winning 4 consecutive rounds in overtime to take the victory.
However, after a stand-in of Snoweater20 on Carole Baskin’s Husbands, the team got the punch they needed to secure a convincing show in the second half of game two to level the playing field.
Both teams have vowed to reconvene again in the future, so watch this space for news on the rematch!
Huge thanks to Snoweater20 for working overtime to get the server configs just right for casting. Be sure to give him a follow over on his Twitch and keep eyes on our socials for the Youtube upload coming tomorrow! GGWP!
This SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY we are aiming for maximum DEMOLITION DEMOLITION DEMOLITION!An open call for anyone who might want to join in on the disastrous driving in Wreckfest tomorrow night! Details of the server will be posted on Discord tomorrow ( discord.gg/gghq )
We’re excited to announce that our first online tournament, scheduled for April 5th, will be a PGGA Tournament in GOLF WITH YOUR FRIENDS.
If interested in taking part, please make sure that you own the game already in your Steam library which can be purchased here, use the sign-up form below, and join our Discord for full joining instructions on the evening in order to take part.
